Spread our wings and soar!

After a lot of hard work and long hours, the board was finally presented with the final proposal that we will be submitting for the SOAR grant. The board authorized the chairman to submit our proposal for $205,300. This will cover numerous items that the park needs to accomplish before opening; such as trail development, rehabilitating the main building, environmental sustainability, and hiring a park administrator. Getting this grant would mean quite a bit in our goal of opening the park.  We'll keep you posted on the status!

Lines in the sand

Some members have been gathering rough estimates from surveying companies on a complete survey for Hollerwood Park. This type of survey is needed for a number of reasons, such as defining land boundaries, trail development, access point planning, etc. The estimates seemed reasonable enough that the board decided to open the bidding process for this type of survey. The board will be running ads in the local newspapers of Estill, Lee, Powell, and Wolfe Counties for bids. Once these bids come in, the board will review them and notify the winner if one is chosen. If you're interested in submitting a bid, keep checking the local newspapers.

our favorite abbreviation: GPS

Jeff Dozier has been working hard to secure a grant from the Southern Four Wheel Drive Association that would pay for dynamic, downloadable maps that could be purchased by riders for all trails developed at Hollerwood Park through the company CartTracks. The maps a downloaded locally to the phone and work with GPS, so cellular service is not required while using the maps, it's only required when downloading the map for the first time. To learn more about how the maps work, check out CartoTrack's website.

cleaning out my closet

Trails get messy. You cut tress down, clean the trails, then they grow back. This is the problem we had to address. We worked with Casey Cravens who helped us organize a trail clean up effort on Saturday, Decemeber 5th. Groups of riders and supports came out with hatchets, axes, chainsaws, and a strong desire to keep the trails we currently have as clean as possible. For this, we thank them! We've got a great base of supporters who are just as eager as we are to get this park open!

Hi,
My father is a majority owner of a resort in Wolfe County called Cliffview where we build cabins to rent. I am moving there at the end of this month as we are beginning more cabins and developing a new portion of the land for more attractions besides the zipline already installed. I am very thrilled to learn of this offroad trail and believe its a great addition to the area. When I arrive in town I will definitely come by and talk with someone to learn what I might could do to assist with the development. I actually own and operate a drone that I use to make aerial maps. I use a Ultra High Def camera and LIDAR sensor technology to capture up close and detailed images that I turn into maps using a great software program. I can generate maps in 3D, digital terrain and more that can I can integrate various data onto as well about different points on the map. I can then post and save the maps to the cloud for easy downloading by visitors that they can use on any computer or mobile device or in print for visitors to use. So would love to talk and if an excavator/bulldozer would help I will be just down the road and happy to help. Looking forward to getting to know the area and loving that I seem to have many common interests with with the community already!

Sincerely,
Spencer Hayes
